Meet the Core Team!
Our teens are ministered to on a weekly basis by incredible adults who give of their time and energy to bring our teens closer to Christ. These volunteers generously share their time and their various gifts and talents with young people, and in doing so, radiate the joy of a Christ-centered Catholic lifestyle. Their testimony and their very presence is a powerful witness in the lives of each young person who enters our doors.
While youth ministry is the responsibility of the entire parish community, we are always looking for adults with a heart for Christ and for His young people to become more involved as Core Members. Contact the Office of Youth Ministry for more information.

John holds a B.A. in Catholic Theology from the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. WHAT IS YOUTH MINISTRY?
Youth Ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people that invites them to share their unique gifts with the greater community.
There are three goals of Catholic Youth Ministry:

WHAT IS LIFE TEEN?
Life Teen is a movement within the Church founded in Mesa, Arizona in 1985. Inspired by St. John Paul II's call for a "new evangelization", Life Teen is a method that enables parishes to invest in young people's gifts, talents, and enthusiasm to help bring about a new springtime in the Church. Life Teen believes that a Eucharist-focused ministry has the power to transform the lives of teens, the life of a parish, and culture in general. It provides a comprehensive, parish-based curriculum that empowers youth ministers and Core members to teach the faith in ways that engage young people where they are at.

WHO RUNS IT?
Under the direction of the Rector of the Cathedral Parish and in conjunction with a core team of Level II and Safe Environment Certified adult volunteers, the Cathedral Parish employs a full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry. This person trains and develops the adult core and youth leadership teams, designs and implements the curriculum rooted in the teachings of the Church, and works to build bridges between young people and the faith community. Since 2012, Mr. John Barron has served in this role. While there is a designated point person for youth ministry, ministering to young people and welcoming their gifts into the life of the parish is the working of the entire parish family.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A LIFE/EDGE NIGHT?
At most nights, teens will be welcomed into some upbeat social time, followed by an intentional large-group activity that helps to introduce the theme of the night. This is followed by a brief teaching on the night's main topic and then an opportunity to break into small groups to share and discuss. The large group then gathers back together to end the night with prayer and to be sent forth to live out that night's teaching in their lives.
This structure, called "Gather, Proclaim, Break, Send", intentionally mimics the movement of the Mass, in which we are nourished by God's Word and the Eucharist and are sent forth to go live it. While these nights in no way replace the Mass - which remains for all ages the source and summit of our faith each Sunday - they do provide a safe, balanced, and age-appropriate place for young people to grow in their faith and their relationships with God and each other through the Church. Faith and fun are in no ways mutually exclusive, and a meaningful relationship with God is accessible to all young people no matter where they are at.
