Edge: Middle School Youth Ministry and Faith Formation
The Mass is the source and summit of our parish life and of the spiritual life of every Catholic Christian. Attendance and active participation at our Sunday Masses (4 PM Saturday, 8:00, 9:30, 11:30 AM and 6 PM Sunday in the Ordinary Form, 12:30 PM Sunday in the chapel in the Extraordinary Form) is the first and foremost aspect of our youth ministry. Teens are encouraged to fully participate in the Mass with their families each week, and are also invited to serve in liturgical ministry as lectors, altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion (17+), and musicians.
We also offer weekly meetings for middle school students known as "Edge Nights". Our youth ministry program uses the Life Teen model of "Gather, Proclaim, Break, Send" which mimics the movement of the Mass. Nights will begin with a large group activity that builds into the main teaching point of the night. They will then "break" into small groups or individual activities to process the main theme and return to the large group to be sent forth in prayer to live out their faith. Because Edge provides developmentally-appropriate catechesis, the ability to interact with peers and Christ-minded adults, and meaningful prayer, Edge also serves as the faith formation ("Sunday School"/FIRE) program for 6th-8th grade students at the Cathedral Parish.
Edge Nights take place on Wednesday evenings from
6 to 8 PM in the Youth Room from September through May.
